In all
researches conducted
with chili,
capsaicin extract
from red chili is used. Capsaicin is a fantastic health stimulant.
Many such researches are carried out to ascertain the much desired
anti- carcinogenic effects. Here are the findings from one of the many such
researches, presented at the annual meeting of the American
Association for Cancer Research held at the These posed as very encouraging news to treatment of cancers. In particular concerns are prostate cancer, the most common cancer among US male gender; and pancreatic cancer, one of the most aggressive cancers with an extremely poor prognosis and low survival rates.
How does chili help
in the prevention Chili, pepper or capsicum is a very rich source of antioxidants. The antioxidants in our normal diets are vitamin C, vitamin E, polyphenols and carotenoids. Chili contains seven times more vitamin C than orange.
Let us
look at how cancer cells are formed: Free radicals are very unstable and reactive cells
as they are 'hungry for electrons'. They attack normal cells in the body in order to obtain these electrons. The
deprived cells, now being
ripped of their own electrons, in turn attack other
normal cells.
This may ultimately lead to a chain reaction,
Under
normal circumstances, the body can handle free radicals. Antioxidants like C
and E protect the body
against these destructive effects of free radicals. They destroy
the free radicals by donating these much sought after electrons; thus
converting them into inactive cells. Whilst vitamin E is fat soluble; vitamin C is water soluble. Vitamin C helps return vitamin E to its active form. They complement each other in action in our blood stream "Although many such experiments suggest that pepper extracts of capsaicin can help treat cancer in animals, much more work needs to be done before capsaicin can be used as a treatment for humans with prostate cancer."
Views are not totally agreeable to
all at this present stage of research which is quite initial. But
findings are in general, positively interpreted. At present, more
and more researches are being conducted in the hope that human
beings may be able to tap the much desired medical potentials of
capsaicin, to the fullest and within the earliest possible time
frame.

Soybeans are
rich in
isoflavones, which helps prevent heart
diseases and certain cancers, like breast cancer...
A research, led by Charles Wood from the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has this finding: "For women at increased risk of breast cancer due to higher oestrogen levels, a diet rich in soy isoflavones may offer a modest breast-protective effect," he said. Tofu made from soybeans, thus, is popular due to its nutritional values too. Tofu is cholesterol-free, low in calories, saturated fat; and high in protein and calcium. Tofu dishes are simple and tasty..... |
