Types and Origin of Noodles
Noodles
play a
prominent role
in many Chinese and Asian cuisines.
Spaghetti, the Italian version of
noodle is almost a universal favorite.
Apart from rice
being the staple food, noodles
and its derivatives, like rice vermicelli, soba, are also
indispensable
substitutes. These noodle dishes are sold anywhere and everywhere, in
streets and in restaurants
of China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand,
Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Korea.
The origin of noodle has since been marred
by the mists of time. Most
people automatically
associate the Chinese
as the inventors of noodles
The Italians claim
they were the
creators,
despite the common beliefs that noodle was introduced by
Marco Polo from
China to Italy. The Arabs, Japanese, Koreans, French and Germans too have joined
the claim!
Chinese researchers
may have finally
settled
the riddle
in early 2005. They unearthed
a 4000-year-old
millet-noodle at the upper Yellow River
in China.

Chili and Onion
in Climate Change Mitigation?
Planting of chilis to generate
income for people who might otherwise turn illegal loggers. This avoids
deforestation and reduce carbon dioxide emissions to save the Earth.
The idea is to use solar dryers
and other systems to prevent the onions from rotting, releasing
the more potent greenhouse gas, methane. The project not only helps to
cut greenhouse gas emissions, but also improve the farmers' income.......read
